Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a recurring pain in my tooth. It feels like I am chewing something with my gums. The pain lasted for a few days and then went away. A few months later the pain returned. I do not know if it is just because of my wisdom tooth which started developing in my mouth or if it is a gum infection. I have taken a picture of it. I am currently on birth control medications. Please help me.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through your query.
The eruption age of wisdom teeth is 17 to 25 years. As per the picture that you have shared (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), there is no space for your wisdom tooth to come out into the oral cavity. It might be in an abnormal position (inclined) inside the bone. During the attempt of eruption, it impinges on the adjacent tooth. This is one cause of pain. Some parts of the tooth have come out of the bone and were obstructed by the adjacent tooth. So the soft tissue or gum is overlying the tooth part. Between the tooth surface and the gum, there will be an accumulation of food debris and bacteria which causes infection of the gum. This is what happened to you. You can visit a dentist and get a radiograph taken with respect to that area to see the position of the tooth. Get the tooth extracted from the oral cavity by an oral surgeon at the earliest. There is a chance for the infection to spread to the neck and develop lethal complications later. So get the treatment at the earliest.
I hope I cleared your doubt.
Thanks and regards.
