What is the cause of bumps inside the mouth?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am an 18-year-old male who had my wisdom teeth removed nearly two weeks ago. The pain has reduced, but I cannot help but notice how moist the left side of my mouth is, and it is bothering me. It is so wet that I can feel a painless squish as I bite down. An X-ray was taken, but there was no infection.

I also have a small bump on the inside of my cheek on the left side and a little whitish bump on my upper left gums. My dentist said it is not infected or an abscess and has no idea what it is. I am currently taking Ibuprofen, Amoxicillin, and Melatonin tablets.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Upon review (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity), I noticed a bump on the left cheek and left gums. The provisional diagnosis is epulis. Differential diagnoses can be an aphthous ulcer, linea alba, and lichen planus. Diagnostic tests needed to confirm the diagnosis are a thorough clinical examination and a biopsy. I suggest relieving reactive lesions and symptoms due to opposing reactive traumatic lesions. The prognosis seems to be fair.

I hope this has helped you. Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.

Thank you.
