Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My mom is a diabetic patient. Yesterday she had undergone a root canal and now she has been asked to remove her wisdom tooth (horizontal impaction of the wisdom tooth). Is it fine for her to do it?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your chief complaint suggests that the wisdom tooth is to be removed for your mother who is a diabetic patient. Diabetic patients need special care and precautionary measures during extraction due to the following risks:

  • Chances of infections.
  • Bleeding.
  • Delay in wound healing.
  • Hypotension
  • Hypoglycemic attacks due to low sugar level
  • I suggest your mom go for a general check-up with her physician and get clarification from him about the status of her health and extract her tooth at any place where safety and precautionary measures are high. Still as per my knowledge and experience if her glucose level is normal, body functions are not compromised, and CBC (complete blood count) and BT CT test (bleeding time and clotting time) are normal, then she can go to the hospital directly with test reports where extraction can be easily done and there is no need to worry.

    I think this helps you.

    Thanks and take care.
