My wisdom tooth pain is unbearable – how can I get relief?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I was planning to remove my upper left wisdom tooth last week. However, the dentist was unavailable due to the pandemic. I took an X-ray on my last visit and my dentist told me that it looks very awkward. I have a lot of pain at this moment as my wisdom tooth has halfway pierced into the side of my cheek. I am struggling to eat and clean my teeth. It is throbbing constantly and my face has swelling on one side. I am able to put only one finger in my mouth now. I can feel the taste of blood and it bleeds a lot when I try to clean it. I have been prescribed antibiotics now. But I am very worried. I do not know when I am going to remove my tooth due to my restricted mouth opening. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

As your mouth opening is very low, do salt water gargling five to six times a day. It will help relax your mouth opening. Continue taking antibiotics as prescribed. Leave a gap of four to five days and then continue taking antibiotics for another five days. If there is still pain, you can take Paracetamol or Ibuprofen temporarily.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
