Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had acne on my jawline and chin region since last year. I do not know how to treat it. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. However, I would like to know the following. From when have you been facing this problem? How many acnes are there? What is the frequency of its appearance and disappearance? Did you use any medications to treat acne? If there are any (medications), mention the name, duration, and dosage. Attach the photographs of the acne lesions. Let me explain that acne vulgaris is a common chronic skin disease involving blockage or inflammation of hair follicles and their accompanying sebaceous glands. Acne can present as noninflammatory lesions, inflammatory lesions, or a mixture of both, affecting mostly the face but also the back and chest. The jawline is prone to recurrence due to repeated usage of hair-removing machines. I would also like to explain the causes of acne, which includes hyperproliferation of the follicular outer layer of the skin and plugging of the follicle, excess sebum production, due to the presence and activity of the skin bacteria such as Cutibacterium acnes (formerly known as Propionibacterium acnes), inflammation. Genetics is also a critical factor in the development and severity of acne. There are various medications and surgical procedures available to treat acne such as acne products (for example, Erythromycin and Benzoyl peroxide, Clindamycin and Tretinoin, Clindamycin and Benzoyl peroxide, Azelaic acid, Benzoyl peroxide, and topical Dapsone), retinoid-like agents (for example, topical Tretinoin, Adapalene, Tazarotene, and Isotretinoin), antibiotics (for example, Tetracycline, Minocycline, Doxycycline, and Minocycline topical foam), selective Aldosterone antagonists (for example, Spironolactone), androgen receptor inhibitors (for example, topical Clascoterone), comedone extraction, intra acne steroid injection, chemical peels and light or laser therapy. The choice of medicines and usage can vary depending on your condition and the discretion of the treating dermatologists or skin specialists. I hope you understand. Thank you.
