Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old male, and I consumed a considerable amount of alcohol. As a result, I am currently experiencing a sore throat and dizziness. I also had a nosebleed today, which lasted approximately 10 to 15 seconds and resulted in the loss of about 3 to 4 milliliters of blood. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Excessive alcohol consumption can have various adverse effects on your body, which may include dehydration, throat irritation, and elevated blood pressure, potentially leading to nosebleeds. It is crucial to take this situation seriously.

The potential causes of your symptoms can be:

  1. Alcohol-induced gastritis or stomach irritation: Consuming excessive alcohol can irritate the stomach lining, leading to inflammation (gastritis), which might result in stomach bleeding.
  2. Esophageal varices: Prolonged and heavy alcohol use can lead to the development of enlarged veins (varices) in the esophagus. These veins can rupture and cause bleeding.
  3. Liver disease: Chronic alcohol abuse can lead to liver damage, including conditions such as cirrhosis. Liver dysfunction can affect the blood's ability to clot properly, potentially causing bleeding.
  4. Throat irritation: High alcohol content can irritate the throat, leading to inflammation, which may manifest as a sore throat and nosebleeds.

Given the severity of your symptoms, it is considered a medical emergency, and it is important that you seek proper evaluation and treatment without delay. In the meantime, I would suggest you to stay hydrated, get some rest, and abstain from further alcohol consumption until you have had a chance to discuss your condition with a healthcare professional.

Hope this helps you.

Thank you.
