How can someone determine the cause of an allergy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been an allergic patient for the last few years. Every alternate day, I used to take a Cetirizine pill, and if I failed to take the same, I felt difficulty in breathing, headache, itching, irritation, cold, swelling on my face and head, and may reach up to fever. Once it reaches a fever level, Cetirizine does not work. I will have to approach a doctor for antibiotics then.

After taking the Cetirizine pill, I feel sleepy and lazy and have low BP. I have consulted with many doctors, but everyone asks to identify the reason for the allergy. But I have failed to identify the same in the last few years. I am tired of taking medicine. I am looking for a permanent solution. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

According to the information given, your symptoms look like an allergic reaction to some item. What your doctor said was right, you need to find the food item causing this reaction. In most cases, foods like mustard, crab, and seafood, can cause this. You can also consult an allergy specialist, and undergo an allergy test.

Fever is a sign that your body is fighting against something in your body. For an allergy, an antibiotic will not work. A routine blood test will also be required to be done. There are many newer drugs for allergies other than tablet Cetirizine.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.
