What can cause pain and a lumpy feeling in the anal area that hurts on sitting and bleeds on wiping?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have pain at the top of my anal area near the tailbone area. It is like a lumpy feeling and it has not caused any pain in the last two months. But suddenly for the past three days, it hurts when I sit and there is a lot of blood when I wipe it with toilet paper.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

Based on your symptoms the probable causes might be as follows.

  1. Fissure in the anus: There will be a crack and pain while passing stools. Blood streaks may be present on the stools. To control it you should eat more fruits and keep your stools loose. You can have any laxative syrup to keep your stools loose as loose stools will avoid further injury and give time to heal. Kindly consult a general surgeon for clinical examination and confirmation of diagnosis.
  2. Hemorrhoids: In this case, bleeding is more than the pain and blood can be passed through stools. To control you need to keep stools loose and use a laxative. Kindly visit a general surgeon for confirmation of diagnosis.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
