Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have skipped three days of antibiotics Amoxicillin. Can I continue today? My doctor gave it for sinus infection.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand that you have skipped your antibiotic. It is essential to follow the course of medicine correctly. Now you have to restart the whole course again. It means if the doctor had asked you to take antibiotics for five days, now you must start all over again. Start for five days from now, the same way as your doctor told you.

Each antibiotic has its mechanism of action, and they act to inhibit or kill bacteria at various stages in the life cycle of bacteria. Also, at a given time, different bacteria will be at different stages of their life cycle. That is the reason why we provide antibiotics for three or five or seven-day course. To kill the bacteria (or inhibit) entirely, all colonies of it that have caused the infection.

Henceforth do not skip the dosage or omit taking tablets. What happens when you omit the dose or take a faulty course is the individual colonies of bacteria from among the lot will turn resistant. Next time the same drug will not work. I hope your query is answered. Feel free to contact for any question.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
