Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I did my ECG today in which I got a first-degree atrioventricular block. What does this mean and is this a serious issue? What is its cause and treatment, please?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

A first-degree heart block means there is a slight delay in conduction of heart impulse from one chamber to another, that is from atria to ventricles. This is not a serious issue. There are many causes for it, few are, congenital defects in the heart, old age, taking some drugs which affect the heart, etc. If you are having any symptoms then only you should investigate it further, otherwise, do not worry about it. This will decide your treatment. If you are not having any symptoms then do not worry.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
