This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old female. I weigh 126 pounds. I started having severe back pain. It feels like someone is crushing my spine and I have a migraine, it feels like a heartbeat. I cannot eat or drink without getting sick. I do not know what to do.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Both the conditions are treatable.

For back pain, have you done any investigation?

In obese patients, back pain is common and called lumbago. Analgesic medication and physiotherapy are beneficial for that.

You have to investigate with an X-ray of the lumbar spine to rule out arthritis or degenerative lesion if present.

Investigate with serum calcium and vitamin D3 level also. Low level of it also can lead to osteoporosis and so spinal pain occurs.

You have mentioned that you are having a severe migraine. For relieving acute attack, if a nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drug like Naproxen is not effective, then Rizatriptan 5 mg tablet can be prescribed to relieve the acute attack of migraine (although migraine has to confirmed before).

To prevent repeated migraine a prophylactic like Amitryptiline can be taken. Consult a specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and start taking the medicines with their consent.

Excess noise, bright light, lack of sleep and smoking can precipitate an attack.
