Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 20-year-old female. I have some questions regarding IUD, HPV, and BV. I have some itching around the genital area for three days now. Previously, I had this issue before a year and it went away. Now it is coming back again. I consulted a gynecologist and she told me that I have some spotting. I got my copper IUD last year and I experience spotting before and after having heavy periods. Is this normal? She also told me that I have genital warts in my vagina. Will IUD make HPV worse? On the same visit, I took a pap smear and the result came back positive for BV. Will BV go away on its own? I do not have any other symptoms like greyish discharge or a fishy odor. But along with itching, I have some discharge of cottage cheese-like substance. It went away for a while and when I checked my IUD, I had some cottage cheese-like substance. Can I have a yeast infection?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Your IUD and vaginal infection are causing trouble in you. Regarding IUD (intrauterine device), it is normal to have spotting after putting it for some time. I assume that you are having regular periods. If so, you can wait for a month. If it does not get normalized, then it is good to see your gynecologist for checking the position of the IUD. Regarding BV (bacterial vaginosis), it is good to treat them even when there is an absence of symptoms. In untreated cases, it causes some issues. Regarding HPV (human papillomavirus), after taking treatment for BV, you can take HPV vaccines to have some relief.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
