Is HPV type 73 transmitted only through sexual contact?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I want to know how HPV (human papillomavirus) type 73 is transmitted. I have heard that it can only be transmitted through sexual intercourse, but I want to be sure. My fiancee also has the virus.

Could you please provide some guidance?

Answered by Dr. Ashok Kumar

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

It is true that human papillomavirus (HPV) type 73 is primarily transmitted through sexual intercourse. As of now, no other mechanism of transmission for HPV 73 is known. Considering that your fiancee has HPV, there is a high possibility of transmission to you. I must inform you that even the use of a condom does not provide 100 percent protection, as areas such as the inner thighs are not covered by the condom.

I hope this helps you.

Thanks and regards.
