Can tooth separators lead to halitosis?

Patient's Query

Hello,

I recently got four separators in my teeth for braces. I removed two of them myself after four days because they had a very foul smell, which gave me bad breath. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Separators are placed to gain space for the placement of the molar band. Since you are going to start with orthodontic treatment, kindly maintain oral hygiene properly and gargle after every meal. The foul smell could have been due to food lodgement. Regarding the removal of separators, by this time it should have given enough space required. You can consult your dentist and get it checked. If there is not enough space required, separators will be placed for a few more days. Kindly maintain oral hygiene properly and follow the doctor's instructions to get desired results. I hope I have cleared your doubts.

Thank you.
