This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have an infection on my penis. There is irritation on my penis foreskin which burns when I go urine and whenever I pull back the skin. The same condition happened before two years. I am not taking any medicine till now. It looks like balanitis. What is your suggestion?

Answered by Dr. K. V. Anand

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Balanitis is a common one among uncircumcised men. Causes include skin disorders, infection, poor hygiene, uncontrolled diabetes and harsh soaps. Symptoms include pain, redness and a foul-smelling discharge from the foreskin. Treatment depends on the cause. But it may require antibiotics, steroid creams or antifungal creams. In extreme cases, the foreskin is needed to be removed (circumcision). I suggest you consult a skin specialist for treatment.
