Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am feeling dizzy whenever I got up from bed or stand up. I vomited four times already with stomach pain too. Whenever, I vomit it feels and tastes like acid. And I also feel burning sensation in the chest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

This does not seem to be problem with your stomach, but the description matches motion sickness. Motion sickness is a condition whereby the movement of the body bring up vertigo, dizziness, and vomiting. The stomach pain does not seem to be acid-related, but it is due to forceful contraction of the abdominal muscles which commonly occur if someone vomits. Usually, the vomiting may or may not accompany with nausea.

Let me know some more information to help establish the reason for it. Have you had these symptoms before? Do you have a headache like migraines? Do you feel dizzy while lying over bed? I mean you only feel dizzy when having movement? Or does moving just your head while lying over the bed brings dizziness? Any change in the vision like blurring? Did you have an ear infection in the recent past or sore throat, cough, fever, swollen tonsils and pharynx? Do you have acidity or acid reflux in the past?

The Probable causes

Labyrinthitis

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

When I am lying flat on my bed, I feel dizzy and feel like vomiting. I had to put my head high and use two pillows to tilt my head high. Whenever I stand up to vomit, I feel more dizzy.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Did you have an ear infection in the recent past? Your symptoms seem to occur due to benign positional vertigo (BPV).

For this, I suggest two things.

1. Exercise which is called Epley maneuver. Ideally, this is performed in clinic setup by a physician or an ENT (ear nose throat) specialist. But you can simply type Epley maneuver on youtube and you would find this exercise. You can do it your self. As often two to three times daily until your symptoms improve.

2. Take tablet Histidine 16 mg thrice daily for one week. You can prolong if symptoms did not improve.

Let me know in three to four days, I will add medicines if not relieved.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
