Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been taking the oral contraceptive tablet Intimacy plus 2 for the past two years. Pills four, five, and six were broken in this month's pack. I had unprotected sex with my husband on the seventh day of the pill pack. Is this a concern? And Will I get pregnant? Kindly help.

Answered by Dr. Richa Agarwal

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. As you have not taken three active pills continuously and had unprotected sex, you are not protected in this cycle because it is your fertile day. As you had unprotected sex and wanted to discontinue the pregnancy, I suggest you take the tablet I pill (Levonorgestrel) for the same. You can take one tablet of I pill 1.5mg within 72 hours of unprotected sex. Only one tablet is required as it may cause menstrual irregularities as a side effect. I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I started my pack on the first day of my period. Pill numbers four, five, and six were broken, but I still took the active pills and I am on day 10 of my pack. On day seven, after taking the active pill, I had unprotected sex. So, will I get pregnant for taking the broken pills? Kindly give your suggestions.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. If you have taken the pills though it was broken, you need not be worried about them. I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
