Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 32 years old. After several annual checkups, I have been told I have elevated high blood pressure, and I am taking Amlodipine. Recently, I have acquired a wrist blood pressure monitor. Unfortunately, I am not sure if I am correctly using the measurements because there is a huge difference between them. I will appreciate if you can help your assistance in managing this condition.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The blood pressure recorded by your wrist monitor in the morning is well within limits. You have a bit of diastolic hypertension, which can be managed by weight loss and stress alleviation. Also, wrist monitors show higher BP recordings than the elbow ones. So, the BP you have is lower.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Should I continue taking the medication?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can stop the drug for one day and check your elbow blood pressure. If it is 130 /90 mmHg, you can half it and wait for a day again. Stop and recheck the BP and finally stop. Check a couple of days later.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

When I use the elbow BP monitor, my systolic ranges from 120 -128 and diastolic between 80-87. I have not taken any medication for the last two weeks, and my blood pressure reading in the morning was 121/82 and a pulse of 66.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If you have been able to maintain this BP for two weeks without taking any medication, then you do not need it.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
