Should I take both Olmezest and Amlong for hypertension?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I was using Olmezest 20 AM for quite some time. When I was using this tablet, my BP is becoming low, like 90/60. I have started using this medicine on alternative days and monitored my BP regularly. My BP is under control. But recently, when we meet a cardiology doctor, he suggested that using alternative days is not good. Medicine will work maximum for 18 to 24 hours. So he suggested using Olmizest 20 and Amlong 2.5 mg instead of Olmizest 20 AM. Do I need to use both tablets daily? Is Olmezest alone not sufficient? I am attaching my health check reports. Could you please go through and let us know your suggestion.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, you may continue with Olmezest 20 mg alone in the morning, and keep on monitoring the blood pressure. If BP rises above 140 systolic, then you have to add tablet Amlong 2.5 mg in the evening. So at present, you may continue with Olmezest 20 mg alone. Regarding your reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity), your lipid profile is slightly deranged, vitamin B12 and vitamin D are low, uric acid is elevated and iron is on the lower normal side. So you should have a healthy lifestyle like avoiding fatty oily and high-calorie food. Have less of a nonvegetarian diet and avoid egg yellow if you are a nonvegetarian. You should have regular exercises like brisk walking or running according to your capacity, for at least 30 minutes a day. For low vitamin D, have tab Uprise D3 60,000 units once a week for eight weeks with milk. For vitamin B12 deficiency, have tablet ME12 OD once daily for two weeks. For uric acid, you should have tablet Febuxostat 40 mg once daily for four weeks. Also, avoid nonveg diet and have nuts in limited quantities. Avoid smoking or alcohol if any. I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Could you please let me know how to use these tablets?
