Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 70 years old. My blood pressure is usually normal. However, it spikes. This morning I woke up feeling nauseous, dizzy, cold feet, shaky and it is 146/86, pulse 84. Why does this happen?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

After reviewing your medical history, I would like to explain that you need to closely monitor your blood pressure values for a couple of days (several times daily) in order to conclude on your average BP (blood pressure) trends. It seems that an abnormally elevated high BP value may have caused your complaints. Anyway, it is necessary to discuss with your doctor on the possibility of performing a medical checkup, including a careful physical exam and some laboratory tests like complete blood count, thyroid, renal and liver function tests, fasting blood glucose level, blood electrolytes level, an ECG (electrocardiogram) at rest. In case several BP values result abnormally high you may need to start an anti-hypertensive therapy. You should discuss with your attending doctor on the above-mentioned issues.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
