What causes more fasting blood sugar levels than post-prandial levels?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My fasting blood sugar level (120 to 140g/dl) is more than my pp (postprandial) sugar level (110 to 120 g/dl) consistently. Hb1ac is 6.3. And I am not using any medicine. Is it a problem?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I read your query and understand your concern. From what you have mentioned it appears that you have impaired fasting glucose. There is nothing to worry about but you have a probability of developing diabetes in the next six months to a year if you do not take good care of your health. Avoid sweet and sugars and sweet drinks as well. Have a low-carb diet and a low-fat diet. Have a good intake of water eight to ten glasses per day. Walk daily for 30 minutes gradually. Repeat your HBa1C after three months and get back to me and we will see whether the diet and exercise are working for you. I hope you find my advice helpful.

Thank you.
