What caused my small, painless breast lump?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

There is a small lump in the breast. I have no pain or any other type of side effects, either. But, as per the doctor's advice, I have gone for the FNAC test.

Please explain what the problem is.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen your attached FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) report (attachment removed to protect patient identity). It is suggestive of a fibroadenoma, which is a very common and mostly harmless condition. It occurs as a result of some hormonal changes during the course of development of the breast. So, there is nothing to worry about if it is small in size (4 cm to 5 cm). You would need a biopsy if it is greater than 5 cm.

Please get a breast ultrasound done and follow up with the report. Then I can advise you regarding what to do next.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
