Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a question. I have been having this problem with my penis. I was hanging out with a female friend seven months back, and we had a sexual encounter. But we did not perform oral sex or anything. All we did was dry hump with our clothes on. A few days later, I felt this tingling feeling on my penis, and then some tiny bumps appeared on my penis (the bottom shaft, close to the testicles). It never gave me any pain, but sometimes it itches. It has been going on for four weeks now. The small bumps have not got worse over time. It looked the same as before.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

  • Is there any redness or tingling now also?
  • Do you have any fever or pain?
  • Do you keep the area dry and clean?

Patient's Query

Thank you, doctor, for your reply.

I have just a little tingling now. And there is no redness, or pain, or fever.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Wash the area with lukewarm water twice daily and avoid strong soaps. Apply mild water-based moisturizer after every wash. After a couple of days, the tingling should resolve. The area around the penis and glans are highly sensitive. During the dry humping, there may have been some friction between the exposed and supple skin with the rough clothes that you may have been wearing. That could be the reason for the prolonged tingling. You will be fine. Be assured. Have a healthy diet. Use some lube next time, even if it is a dry hump.

Patient's Query

Thank you, doctor, for your reply.

If possible, I can attach a photo of the area to get a good look at what I am talking about.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Alright, take a clear picture after washing it with water. Check if there are any boils or redness or any suspicious lesion in the inner thighs or testicles.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Fine, here are the pictures. There is no redness, or boils, or any suspicious lesions in the inner thighs and testicles.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I went through the pictures you have sent (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Thanks for sending those. The bumps appear fine and nothing to worry about. You may use a mild antibiotic with steroid cream over the area for a week. Suppose there is any infection over the shaft that will reduce. Apply Soframycin (Framycetin Sulphate) with Dexamethasone or Neomycin with Hydrocortisone cream twice daily over the area. Sometimes these bumps occur when you shave off the pubic hair. Meanwhile, if there is excessive tingling, you may take a tablet of Zyrtec (Cetirizine). Do let us know how you feel.

Patient's Query

Thank you, doctor, for your reply.

So this means I do not have anything correct? Because the bumps have not changed since they appear and it has been for five weeks, and they still look the same as before. There is no pain at all, just itches.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You do not have anything. It is common for bumps to appear in that area. It gets aggravated and stimulated due to the sweat produced and accumulated there. You may apply the steroid antibiotic creams for a couple of weeks and carefully remove the hairs to keep the area ventilated and attended. Perhaps next time you dry hump, promptly wash the area with water to remove all the dried ejaculate. Do not worry. Resist the urge to scratch the bumps.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you so much for your reply.

So do you think Neosporin would help? If not, what another name brand of antibiotic cream would you recommend using for it to go away?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can try,

  • Soframycin with Dexamethasone also.
  • T-bact (Mupirocin) ointment, which is Bacitracin, is also good.
  • Mupirocin.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Fine, just in case I do not have either at the moment, Can I use Neosporin until then? Will that be safe for it to go away? And also, will any of those things help stop the itching?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

At the moment, you use the ointment or cream which you have, and click a picture, and sent me. That should do. It has a mild analgesic (local anesthetic) action that should get rid of the tingling sensation. Wash the area with lukewarm water twice daily and apply the cream after that. Do not scratch the area. If possible, try getting a steroid combination of Neomycin or Soframycin.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I have another question. So with the pictures I showed you of the bumps, would those be considered razor bumps, Fordyce spots, or folliculitis? Because seven months back, I shaved my pubic hair with some barber hair razor clippers, and that sexual encounter I had was three days later, so therefore it was three days apart.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

These bumps are not Fordyce spots (whitish-yellow bump). But quite likely they can be razor bumps. Folliculitis (a skin condition that affects the hair follicle) is quite painful. Considering that you shaved off the area and had the encounter after three days, they may be razor bumps. You may not have noticed the spots earlier to the sexual encounter. Post the meeting, and the tingling could have made you check for anything wrong in the nether regions and led to their discovery.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

So does razor bumps last for a while? Because now it is six weeks of having them after the encounter. I also have not shaved since that happened.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If you let the hair grow without shaving, then these eventually resolves. Since you did not shave since that encounter, these must most probably be some tissue reaction and fibrosis underneath the skin due to irritation during the shaving. After the shaving, the dry hump may have worsened the area and caused the bumps to stay this long. Mild bitterness and inflammation would have made the bumps remain this long. I would still vouch for the Neomycin cream that you showed a picture. After applying that for a week, you should be able to find out whether these bumps resolve or not.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
