What is the treatment for cottage cheese discharge and burning sensation in my vagina?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

For the last five days, my labia have been swollen, I have had a cottage cheese discharge, and my vagina is burning and itching.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

This is due to a fungal infection called vaginal candidiasis. Symptoms include itching and irritation in the vagina and vulva, burning sensation, especially during intercourse or while urinating, redness and swelling of the vulva, and thick, white, odor-free vaginal discharge with a cottage cheese appearance.

Antifungal medications treat most vaginal yeast infections. The specific medication depends on the severity of the infection. Most yeast infections clear up with medication after a few days, but it may take a full week. More severe cases may last longer and take longer to treat.

I suggest you take the following medications with the consent of a specialist doctor.

  • Clotrimazole pessary (vaginal tablet) 100 mg. Place one pessary daily at night inside the vagina for ten days.
  • Tablet Fluconazole 150 mg, one tablet in the morning for one day only.
  • Take the following precautions:

    ● Do not wear tight pants and underwear.

    ● Do not use any vaginal perfumes or soaps.

    ● Do not wear synthetic underwear.

    ● Use cotton underwear and loose clothes.

If the condition does not improve, visit a gynecologist for detailed evaluation and management.

I hope this information will help you.
