How can cervical radiculopathy be managed?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 28 years old and have been experiencing pain that starts from my spine and extends to my upper neck for the past three years. Occasionally, my blood pressure has been slightly elevated, reaching 150/90 mmHg about four to seven times. However, my blood pressure is now normal, averaging between 125/85 mmHg and 130/90 mmHg. Despite this, I still suffer from pain in my neck and upper head, along with discomfort on the left side, such as a sensation of pressure around my heart, as well as discomfort in my left shoulder and left leg. My LDL cholesterol is 126 mg/dL, and my HDL cholesterol is 43 mg/dL.

Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The pain you are describing does not appear to be cardiac in origin. Cardiac pain is usually accompanied by symptoms such as shortness of breath, palpitations, and similar issues. Your symptoms suggest cervical radiculopathy, which can cause pain to radiate to other parts of the body. I recommend taking Ibuprofen 400 mg twice daily for five to seven days and gently exercising your neck with slow, controlled movements. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with take the medicines with their consent. If you do not experience relief within a week, consult a physician for a thorough physical examination.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
