How to manage chest pain related to acid reflux?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My ECG is normal. When I lie on my back and take deep breaths, I feel chest pain. I have high blood pressure. Since my C-section delivery, I have been taking Amlodipine.

Please advise me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have carefully read your question and would explain that your symptoms do not seem to be heart-related. Gastroesophageal reflux could be the most probable cause of your complaints. Therefore, it is necessary to perform a fibrogastroscopy to investigate this disorder. An antacid or PPI (proton pump inhibitor) such as Omeprazole can help improve your situation. Regarding Amlodipine, it can exacerbate acid reflux as a common side effect. For this reason, it may be necessary to switch to another antihypertensive therapy, such as an ACE inhibitor (angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor) or an ARB (angiotensin receptor blocker).

Thanks and regards.
