How to manage neck and shoulder pain?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing chest pain for a while now. At times, my arm hurts as well. This has been going on for about four years, and recently I have started to have neck and shoulder pain. I am a 22-year-old male. I have asthma and am currently taking Albuterol. I have had an EKG, a chest X-ray, and multiple blood tests.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Where exactly do you feel chest pain? Is it in the center or on the sides, in the upper or lower chest? Does it occur at rest or during exertion? Is there any upper abdominal pain, bloating, burping, nausea, vomiting, burning in the chest, or a relationship to food? This is most likely due to cervical pain resulting from nerve compression in the spine. Does this pain increase with neck movement or after any neck trauma? These may be associated symptoms.

You should get an X-ray of the cervical spine in both the anteroposterior (AP) and lateral views, and you may need an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). After the X-ray, you should visit a physiotherapist and an orthopedist. In the meantime, take vitamin supplements containing vitamins B1, B6, and B12 once a day, as it is a nerve vitamin. If this is not helpful, then you should take Pregabalin 75 mg at bedtime, which is a nerve stabilizer. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with take the medicines with their consent.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
