Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am suffering from chicken pox and I went to the hospital yesterday. But they did not give me medicine and told me it will be cured in some days. I am itchy and the rashes are being multiplied. It has been two and a half days since I saw visible rashes and I am having a slight fever too.

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

For chicken pox, ideally, antiviral medication has to be started within 24 hours and if it has crossed four hours there is no extra benefit that you get with those antivirals and that is why you have not been prescribed antiviral medication. But symptomatic treatment can be taken like

  1. Tab Levocetirizine 5mg daily one for 7 days
  2. Calosoft lotion - for local application twice daily on rashes.
  3. Drink lots of water and take rest for two days.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I am having issues in my throat and it is paining a lot when I try to swallow. It has been two days. And can you tell me if I can take a bath or not and which soap I should use? Even for the throat pain, they did not give me any medicine.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

For throat pain do Betadine gargles thrice daily. Also you can take bath with your regular soap. It is just common viral infection. Eat a soft diet and drink lots of fluid and rest, it will be reduced.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
