Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 18-year-old male, 165 centimeters tall and my weight is around 215.5 lbs. I am suffering from a severe cold. It started two days ago and it is only getting worse. When I start working, it arises suddenly and gets worse. I do not have a medical history regarding it and I am not taking any medications for it. I have not taken any laboratory tests for it.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to Icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Your symptoms suggest you have a common cold. Most colds are viral infections of the upper respiratory tract although bacteria can also infect the upper respiratory tract. Viral colds last about five to ten days before getting better on their own. Most cold symptoms also peak in two to four days.If symptoms continue to get worse and last more than a week you may benefit from a throat swab microscopy, culture and sensitivity, and a course of antibiotics. Consult your physician before taking any laboratory tests and medications. In the meantime try to take lots of water to stay hydrated and keep your throat from getting too dry. You should take over-the-counter lozenges to soothe your throat. You can also take a vitamin C supplement proven to reduce the duration of colds. You can take 200 milligrams of this twice a day. Also, you should take over-the-counter Loratadine (Claritin) 10 milligrams every day which would help your runny nose. Cough syrup can also be taken although they are of questionable benefit. I do hope you get well soon. Do have a great day ahead, thank you.

I hope I have solved your query.

Feel free to write back if any doubts persist.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
