Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I received the results of my lung test and almost everything is fine. However, I was told that there is a possibility of a mild obstructive defect. I am scared and suspect that it could be chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). I have never smoked. The forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume (FEV)1, FEV1/FVC, total lung capacity (TLC), and residual volume (RV) are normal, and I have shared the values. There is no significant bronchodilator response. Kindly give an opinion.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I am here to give you the best care possible. I can understand your concern. I have gone through the reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) that you have shared. May I know a few more things? 1. Do you have any smoking habits? 2. Do you have any respiratory symptoms? 3. Do you have any breathing problems? Please answer the above questions so that I can guide you better. I wish you good health. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply. The report says that the flow-volume loop demonstrates mild coving of the expiratory limb. The patient has evidence of normal spirometry and lung volumes. The flow volume curve demonstrates a possible mild obstructive defect hence clinical correlation is recommended. There is no significant bronchodilator response, but this does not preclude the use of bronchodilator therapy. The diffusion capacity is normal. These tests are interpreted based on standard guidelines.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. Thanks for your follow-up question on icliniq. I can understand your concern. I have seen the reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), but they are different from your symptoms. We have to correlate reports with symptoms. We cannot diagnose COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) if the patient is completely asymptomatic, has no smoking habits and PFT (pulmonary function test) is showing obstructive defect. So, please let me know the following: 1. Do you have any symptoms like chronic cough, chest congestion, expectoration, or breathlessness? 2. Do you have any smoking habits? 3. Do you have any family history of asthma or allergy? Please answer the above questions so that I can guide you better. We look forward to serving you once more. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply. I have breathlessness and chest tightness. I have never smoked in my life and have no history of asthma or lung problems in my family.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. Once more, thank you for allowing us to be of service to you. So, you have respiratory symptoms with a mild obstructive defect on spirometry. This is suggestive of mild bronchitis. Kindly let me know the following: 1. Do you have exposure to chemical fumes in your workplace? 2. Have you started any medication for bronchitis, chest tightness, or breathing difficulty? 3. Have you taken any chest X-ray or computed tomography (CT) (computed tomography) scan of the lungs? Please answer the above questions so that I can help you further. I wish you good health. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply. I have no exposure to any chemicals. I have not started any medication and I am just taking an over-the-counter inhaler. I am not sure if it will work. I took a chest X-ray last year (about seven months ago), and the results were normal. I did not take a computed tomography (CT) scan.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. Glad to have you back! May I know which inhaler you are using? Do not follow a stressful lifestyle. Practice meditation. Let me know the inhaler which you are using so that I can guide you further. You are welcome to reach out to us whenever you need an expert medical opinion. Thank you.
