I have cough, sneezing, nose block and headache when the weather changes. Why?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 19-year-old male. I always have a cough. There is also a nasal flow, sneezing, nose block, headache, body pain and sometimes fever. These happen when the weather changes, when I have ice cream, cold drinks, or bananas, or when I get drenched in the rain. I had pneumonia during childhood and always had similar issues, but now it is very frequent. Also, every winter I notice blood clots in my nose. I also have rashes quite often on different areas of my hands. They subside a little when I take some allergy medicines. I have attached my recent blood reports.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and investigations (attachment removed to protect patient identity). You have a chronic cough, nasal congestion, and sneezing. There are different possibilities based on your other symptoms:

  1. Allergic rhinitis: This will be my first diagnosis, and I would suggest antiallergics like a combination of Levocetirizine and Montelukast for 10 days and Fluticasone nasal spray.
  2. Chronic tonsillitis: which will need an ENT (ear, nose, and throat specialist) examination.
  3. Postnasal drip: in which case, you will need a course of antibiotics.

Thank you.
