What can be done for chronic cough?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from a cough since last six months. What should I do for curing my disease?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

A chronic cough can have different causes. It is important to know if it is mostly in the mornings and you have symptoms of gastric reflux (this is the most common cause). We also need to asses if you have other symptoms like eye or nose itchiness or a runny nose (this could be allergic). If you smoke you could be starting symptoms of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) or chronic bronchitis. Last, we need to know if there are other important symptoms like weight loss or night sweats. The treatment will depend on the cause.
