HomeAnswersGeneral Medicinecovid-19I have a fever, cough, and cold, but my RT-PCR reports are negative. What can it be?

What can be the reason for the fever, cough, and cold when RT-PCR shows negative results?

Patient's Query

Hello,

I am suffering from fever, mild cough, and severe cold. I took the RT-PCR test, which showed that I am COVID negative. So, we did some blood tests. Currently, I am taking Paracetamol tablets. Also, see my attached test reports. I need your advice and treatment. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I went through your query about fever, cough, and cold. I would like to know some more details about your present symptoms-

1. Since how many days do you have your symptoms of fever or cough?

2. Is your fever high grade or low grade?

3. Do you have any other symptoms like body ache, tiredness, or loose motions.

4. Do you have a dry cough, or is it with expectoration?

5. Is there any possible contact history with a COVID-positive patient?

Though your RT-PCR test is negative, I would ask you to remain isolated from your family members and repeat your RT PCR test after three days as the test may come false negative in the initial phase with a low viral load.

Till then, I suggest you take-

1. Tablet Sinarest (Chlorpheniramine) twice a day for three days.

2. Tablet Azee (Azithromycin) 500 mg once a day for three days.

3. You must perform steam inhalation.

4. You must do regular gargles.

5. You must drink plenty of water and fluids.

6. You can take multivitamin tablets like capsule Becosules Z (vitamin B1- Thiamine Mononitrate, vitamin B2- Riboflavin, vitamin B3- Niacinamide, vitamin B- Pyridoxine hydrochloride, vitamin B7- Biotin, vitamin B9- Folic Acid, vitamin B12- Cobalamin, vitamin B5- Calcium Pantothenate, vitamin C- Ascorbic Acid, and Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate) once a day.

7. Tablet Limcee (vitamin C- Ascorbic acid) 500 mg once a day for ten days.

Kindly get back with the above details for further discussions.

Take care.

Thank you.
