Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My face is darker than my body. Before it was the same but now it is totally different. Someone suggested using sunscreen cream. But it is not working. What should I do to lighten my skin of the face?

Answered by Dr. Gaurang Gupta

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for the query Skin tanning is a side effect of excessive sunlight exposure. Indian skin is very prone to get tan. I explain treatment and precautions point-wise manner

1. Avoid direct sunlight exposure as much as you can. Wear sunglass, and caps, and cover the exposed part of the body all the time

2. Use sunscreen thrice a day like 10 o'clock, 12, and 3 o'clock all over the face

3.. Sunscreen SPF should be around 50.

4. Use anti-pigmentation cream over pigmented parts like Kojic acid, Hydroquinone, Depiwhite cream, etc.

5. If tanning is deep and too much then the ideal treatment is glycolic acid peels. Sittings of six to eight peels must be required.

6. Never stop sunscreen even if tanning goes off.

7. Rule out thyroid, diabetes, and obesity. All three factors help in tanning a lot.

Thank you.
