Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My lower lip is lighter than my upper lip, and I have a dark skin complexion. If I use Mandelic acid, will it change my lower lip to its darker color?

Answered by Dr. Shanza Ikram

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Mandelic acid will not help in your case.

It could be some reaction to multiple cosmetics or lip balm products that there is a color difference.

Always try to find dermatologically suitable lip balms or avoid them as much as possible. Just apply vaseline.

But I want to see if it is very light in color and if it is not showing some other diseases like vitiligo. But for this, I have to see your picture.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for your reply.

This is how they look. I applied vaseline. I do not believe I have vitiligo.

Answered by Dr. Shanza Ikram

Hi,

Well, I have gone through your case.

You are right; it is neither vitiligo nor any other serious depigmentary disorder.

  • And yes, there is an obvious contrast of color between the two lips. You must not use Mandelic acid. It is not an effective cream.
  • Use white color toothpaste.
  • Apply Hydrozole cream two to three times a day.
  • Do not rub your tongue on your lips, as saliva produces reactions in many cases.
  • Maintain good oral hygiene.
  • Keep on applying vaseline frequently.
  • Follow the above for at least three weeks.

Kind regards.
