Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had protected intercourse with my partner. The date of my menstrual cycle was due about a week ago and I still have not got my period. I also have stomach bloating. I am worried. Please help me out.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query in detail and will surely help you out. Causes of delayed or missed periods can be many, one of them being pregnancy. Pregnancy seems less likely as you had protected sex but still we cannot rule out the possibility. I suggest you to take a pregnancy test along with serum beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) levels.

Now coming on to delayed periods, rather than trying to bring regular periods, we should focus on trying to find out the cause of missed periods. Once we find the cause and treat it, this will not happen again. So there can be numerous causes, the most common ones are stress, anxiety, and pregnancy. Once we have worked these out and found that none of these is the main cause. Next comes medical diseases like thyroid diseases, prolactin disorders, and ovarian disorders. You will need a few tests and once the diagnosis is confirmed, you can be easily cured with treatment. You just need the right diagnosis and management. You can discuss with your local doctor or with me further as to what medications and tests are required.

Hope this helps. Kindly revert in case of further queries.
