I have tooth pain with no cavity. Why does it hurt so much?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My tooth really hurts, but I do not see a cavity, and I am really scared to go to the dentist. Kindly advise.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If you are in tooth pain, you definitely have to visit the dentist as soon as possible. You might not know which tooth is causing the trouble, and it is always better to address it at an earlier stage rather than postponing, which might lead to serious trouble or complex treatment. A few tips for the first dental visit are as follows. Call and make an appointment with your local dentist, asking for a consultation, and mention it in case it is the first visit.

Ask for a clinic tour as you go for the first time. Make yourself comfortable on the dental chair because it is going to be just a checkup under the light. Make a second appointment for the treatment depending on the severity of the dental problem. Take any one of your friends or siblings along with you, with whom you will always be comfortable, and not with the support person who freaks out more than you.

Dental treatment is not always meant to be under a needle prick. There are so many methods for pain relief that you would not even realize that you got a needle prick at all. For pain relief at the moment, please take the tablet Panadol (Paracetamol) thrice daily after food for three days.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
