Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am suffering from diabetes, varicose veins, and weight loss problems. Please help me.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your complaint. First of all, do not assume you have diabetes. Confirm it by carrying out fasting blood glucose levels from a clinical laboratory.

Now coming to your problem, Varicose veins are a condition where the valves or perforators of the leg are not functioning well; hence there is tortuosity of the superficial veins of the legs with the pooling of blood. Treatment comprises both nonsurgical and surgical methods.

In nonsurgical ways, there are lifestyle modifications and compression bands. Other ways are sclerotherapy, laser surgery and stripping of veins, which is a purely surgical procedure.

I would suggest a few measures:

  1. Avoid long standing.
  2. Use Venostocks while standing at work.
  3. Take proper care of the legs by resting in a head-low position on the bed.
  4. Reducing obesity with regular walking. Since you have difficulty walking, I strongly advise you to undergo bariatric surgery for weight reduction.
  5. Take a low-calorie diet, including low fats and proteins in your diet.
  6. Assessment of legs by USG (ultrasonography) and Doppler study.

Hope this helps.

If you have any further queries feel free to ask.

Thank you.
