My kid has diarrhea and has no strength or stamina. Please help.

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

What is wrong with a junior school child who has diarrhea and either stopped drinking or is unable to. He has eyesight weakness and now wears glasses. He worries a lot and despite a good appetite does not put on weight. Has difficulty in reading and writing. He has no power, strength or stamina. Thyroid tests are all normal. Has he some other congenital disorder? Because there is definitely something wrong and we are guilty of not observing him fully and properly.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Causes of diarrhea and poor nutrition at this age might be due to celiac disease (an autoimmune disorder), worm infestation, IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease).

I suggest:

  1. Give him syrup Nitazoxanide 200 mg twice a day for five days.
  2. Give syrup preparation of iron-folic acid 50 mg once a day.
  3. Give calcium containing syrup 500 mg twice a day.
  4. Give Vitamin B-complex syrup 5 mL once a day.
  5. Get done CBC (Complete Bood Count), ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate), LFT (Liver Function Test), serum tTGA, IgA, stool routine and microscopic examination.

Revert back to a paediatrician online with reports and details for definitive treatment.
