Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Since yesterday, I am unable to open my mouth widely. I have a restricted opening. When I try to open my mouth widely, I have pain in the right side of the jaw. I consulted a doctor yesterday. He gave me an injection and suggested me to take some tablets. In the early morning, I tried to open my mouth again and I was able to open my mouth successfully on two tries. After that, my jaw became locked again.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please mention whether you have a previous history of dental treatments like fillings, tooth removal, or root canal treatment. Please mention whether you have a habit of tobacco chewing and smoking. Please mention whether you have any associated tooth pain. Please mention whether you had any recent fall injuries. Lockjaw can occur due to various factors such as tensed jaw muscles, wisdom tooth issues, jaw joint issues or it can occur due to OSMF (oral submucous fibrosis). It is caused due to long-term pan chewing habits. This condition is treated by taking painkillers and muscle relaxants. Continue taking tablets for few days.

Usually, it takes a time of one or two weeks to come back to normal. But clinical examination is necessary to diagnose your condition and to provide you a proper treatment. Do not open your mouth forcefully because it can restrict your mouth opening again and delays your recovery. Continue taking medications and consult your doctor for review. Practice mouth opening exercise as instructed.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
