Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am around 86 years old and have mild pain while swallowing saliva and not with food or drinking water. I consulted doctors who said my throat was congested, and another suggested an MRI, which showed enlarged thyroid glands with colloid nodules, and no mass lymphadenopathy. I have taken many antibiotics and antiallergics, but no improvement. So now I am on antacids and multivitamins. What could be the reason for this? Is there any chance of malignancy? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

If your MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan (throat and neck) is normal and there are no enlarged neck nodes or masses and no difficulty swallowing or drinking. Then it is unlikely to be a malignancy.

It can be due to allergy, infection, or sometimes age-related. If you are an ex-smoker or have been taking alcohol regularly. Then your mucosa is fragile and compromised. I would suggest an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) checkup with a scope. If the doctor finds anything suspicious, the doctor will do a biopsy. I suggest avoiding spicy, hot, and cold drinks and irritant foods.

Thank you.
