Is bleeding foe two months after D and C treatment normal?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am bleeding after D and C treatment since two months. Sonography of the endometrium showed thickness of 9 mm with few cystic areas within it. Is the treatment right, or should I have a second opinion?

The doctor said it was normal and suggested medicines. I am currently taking Misoprostol tablets for 21 days after the sonography.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Ultrasound suggests incomplete abortion, although this is rare after dilation and curettage. For this, a tablet of Misoprostol is usually given, so treatment is fine. My only concern is to rule out abnormal conception, known as a molar pregnancy. So would suggest you get your serum beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) hormone levels tested.

If the result comes out to be within normal range, then nothing else apart from Misoprostol is required. But if levels are high, we need to evaluate it further. I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

The beta hCG level test is done and it is in normal range. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

When was the beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) hormone level test done, and what was the value?

If it has been more than 48 hours, get it repeated to see whether it is increasing, decreasing, or is the same. If beta hCG is normal and is not suggestive of pregnancy, then there is nothing serious. You will be fine; if not treated by medicine, another D and C (dilation and curettage) may be required.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
