How to cure an inflamed vein along my penis shaft?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a large inflamed vein along the shaft of my penis for about 10 years now. It causes no pain at all and no symptoms. I just really dislike the look of this and I need to get rid of it now as it is becoming more of a problem as I get older. I have looked up for symptoms and treatment online and it sounds like it could be an inflamed lymph instead of a vein. The pain starts at the base and goes to under the head of penis and curls into a circle then stops. It has been there since I was about 12 and I think it has got worse but cannot really remember. The only treatment advice I have read is to stop masturbating and it will resolve itself but I also have people saying they have stopped for months and it does not help. I know people say it is normal but I never used to have it and I do not want it anymore so just want to know if no masturbation is the answer. What is the timeline for healing? Also is there anything for speed recovery?

Thank you doctor,

I have attached photographs for your reference.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have seen image sent by you (attachment removed to protect patient identity). It is a mildly dilated dorsal vein of the penis which is congenital as you have it since childhood. It is increasing in size because of the growth of the penis. It is perfectly normal and found in many males and there is no associated risk. There are no oral medicines to cure. It does not require any treatment. No, it will not go even after stopping masturbation. If you want you can get laser treatment done to get it removed or disappeared. But there are high chances of erection problems after treatment since it is directly related to erection mechanisms and venous drainage of the penis. It is up to you to decide what you want - a vein with erection or no vein without an erection.
