Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I got bitten by a dog on Sunday morning. I went to a local doctor on the same day and got a tetanus shot and antibiotics. Do you think I need a rabies shot as well? And if so, where could I get this from?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

As far as I know, rabies disease has not been encountered in your country for many years. And anti-rabies vaccine immunoglobulins are not commonly used in hospitals or pharmacies, as most dogs are vaccinated. If the dog is sick (agitated or furious), taking an antirabies vaccine shot within 72 hours can help prevent this disease. Anyway, you can seek more information in the department of infectious diseases, in the ER (emergency room) of the UHC Mother Teresa, or in the Public health institute. In the ER of the infectious diseases department, you can also perform a physical exam and some blood lab tests.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you for consulting me.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you. Is there somewhere in Tirana I could get the shot?

Answered by Dr. Aida Abaz Quka

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Glad to have you back.

I would suggest you go to the ER of the Infectious disease department in the University Hospital Center Mother Teresa, Tirana. There you can find a specialist doctor, who can help you. Another possible place is the National Health Public Institute in Tirana.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you for consulting me.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
