Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 41 year old female. I have a question about anesthesia. I need to get surgery on my foot to cut down a bump on a bone.
The doctor said it was only going to be a twenty-minute procedure, and I will be able to leave the hospital the same day. I take the medication Clozaril for a sleep problem (even though it is normally prescribed for schizophrenia), and I was just wondering if it is dangerous to have anesthesia in combination with this medication. Is it better to use a certain anesthetic than others when in combination with it?
I was told by my doctor that I just should not take it on the morning of the operation, but I just wanted to get a second opinion, because I have never had surgery before. I am a bit nervous about it. Clozaril 200 mg a day is the only medication I take.
Thank you so much for your help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Continue your medication as advised. Just skip it on the day of the surgery. In the most likelihood, the excision of your bone bump will be done under local anesthesia, and this medication will not affect anesthesia or vice versa.
Sit back and relax. Have a safe surgery.
I hope that you get your answer.
Please let me know if you need any help.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
So, the doctor said that he thought the anesthesiologist would use Propofol or Fentanyl, and that I would not remember the surgery after. Do you still think that would not be a problem with Clozaril?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Most probably, an ankle block using a local anesthetic or sedation with Propofol would be used, both of which are safe with the medication you are using.
I hope that you get your answer.
Please let me know if you need any help.
Thank you.
