I am 32. Can I continue jogging with itchy red skin spots?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 32 years old. I have got some red spots on my skin, especially on my legs, where I wear socks, and also one spot on my left hand. After a long time, I recently started jogging. I am new to the place where I am now.

I had also encountered a sock allergy earlier, but got relieved after using some cream. I do not remember them. Now, this is itching and spreading slightly.

  1. Can you kindly check the photos and advise accordingly?
  2. How to get them healed?
  3. Can I continue jogging?

Kindly guide.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern and will try to help you with it.

I have reviewed your photographs (attachments removed to protect patient identity). You are having eczema. The probable causes could be endogenous due to the internal sensitivity of the individual.

I would recommend you apply Clobetasol propionate cream on the affected areas twice daily and take tablet Levocetirizine 5 milligrams twice daily. Continue this for two weeks and revert.

Kindly follow the below-mentioned preventive measures:

  1. Avoid using soap and avoid wearing synthetic socks.
  2. Wear cotton socks. Go for regular oiling.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reach out in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor.

Thank you for the reply.

  1. Why does it happen?
  2. How can I prevent this in future?
  3. Should I take the tablets after food?
  4. Can I continue wearing shoes?

I need to go to the office.

I did not have this itching problem before coming to this place. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read and understand your concern.

It has no specific cause in many cases. But in a few, it can be due to the application or use of anything new. It can also be due to changes in weather conditions. To prevent this condition, keep your body moisturized. Avoid applying chemicals and soaps. Use lukewarm or cold water for bathing and wear cotton clothes. Take the tablet after meals. Yes, you can continue wearing shoes.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I applied Clobetasol propionate cream as told and took Levocetirizine 5 mg. After that, the itching reduced a little. Today, I took one Levocetirizine after food, wore socks, and went to the office. In the afternoon, I felt very sleepy, and the redness also increased. I have attached photos for your reference.

  1. Is it normal?
  2. Can something be done for sleepiness?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read and understand your concern.

I have reviewed the attached photographs (attachments removed to protect patient identity). Redness has definitely increased. But it will take some time for the medicine to act, and it is totally normal. Continue with Clobetasol propionate cream.

For sleepiness, stop Levocetirizine and instead take tablet Fexofenadine 180 milligrams once or twice daily, depending on the intensity of itching. Also, wear cotton socks and avoid shoes and socks when not at the workplace.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reach out in case of further queries.

Thank you.
