What causes poor erection and low libido during sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am having erection problems and low libido during sex. I am married for six years, and now I am 37 years old. Just after marriage, I discovered that I had this erection problem but was at a mild level, and I could manage to have sex with a few days gap in between. I felt a lack of mood and used to lose erection during sex. Now, as we are trying to have a baby, we need to have sex at least for 8-10 days continuously during my wife's fertile period. I can only manage this by taking Tentex Royal capsule (recommended by a physician) before sex for those days only. I need to use my hand sometimes for erection before intercourse. However, recently even after taking this capsule, I am losing erection during sex sometime. I am afraid to take any common drug like Sildenafil on my own regularly. Kindly help. My weight is 182 lbs, and height is 5.9 feet. I do not have blood pressure or diabetes, and I do not smoke or drink. I used to masturbate and watched porn earlier, but I have stopped.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Erection problems can be due to lifestyle factors like taking alcohol, smoking, or being overweight. It may also be due to any major illness or some medicines. Often it can be due to stress, anxiety, or due to blood abnormalities for which you need to do blood tests Hb, TC, DC, fasting sugar, Prolactin, TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), and testosterone. Walking half an hour daily will help. If you are in some office job, then every half an hour, get up from your chair and walk around for five minutes. It will help circulation in the penis. Some couples practice fertile period or ovulation method for sex, it puts stress on the partner by making a pleasurable activity into a task of performing, and he develops an erection problem. It can be overcome easily if they forget the ovulation time and do sex all through the month on alternate days. You have one factor that is overweight, do some physical exercises. You need to do blood tests, as mentioned above. You do not need to do sex daily. During the fertile period, alternate days is enough and better. After sex, sperms live in the female body for 48-72 hours, even up to five days. So alternate days sex is good. Also, pregnancy can occur anytime away from the fertile period. You can use Tadalafil 5 mg before sex, but before that, you should do blood tests as mentioned above. Take vitamin D 60k once in 15 days.
