Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am suffering from erectile dysfunction. Kindly tell me what to do.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The causes of erectile dysfunction are many including medical conditions such as hypertension, thyroid dysfunction, diabetes, local genital pathology, low sex hormones, etc., and it can be psychological also. So get the investigation done to rule out medical conditions.

Secondly, it can be managed first by a technique called Master and Johnson. Read it and practice it. It is difficult to explain it here, if you cannot understand it then consultation with a psychiatrist in person is required. The drug such as Sildenafil or Tadalafil is used to manage erectile dysfunction, as these drugs increase vascular flow to genital and cause sustain erection. These drugs are prescription only drugs so you need the prescription. This type of drug is not to be used if you are taking nitrates, a drug for the heart problem.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Actually, I used to masturbate a lot when I was young. Maybe that can cause the problem? Also, we are actually planning a baby but not able to do intercourse. I am married for five years. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Masturbation per se does not cause erectile dysfunction. So do not feel guilty about that. Before going to investigation try to spend enough time during foreplay, say 30 minutes. Spend time in foreplay, and do not think about it that how will you perform, just relax and enjoy the foreplay. Many a time this can help to a great extent. If this does not work then go for investigation and consulting with a psychiatrist in person to find the cause.
