Hi doctor,

Due to a heavy workload and an unhealthy lifestyle, I became overweight, and I also have fibroadenoma in my left breast, which causes pain sometimes. I used to eat oily foods. Can this cause fibroadenoma, high cholesterol, and gallstones in the future? I am in my early 30s, a female, and I have one son. What healthy diet should I follow?

Fibroadenoma has no direct relationship with fatty meals, but high cholesterol due to fatty meals can cause hormonal disturbances, contributing to fibroadenoma as well as other issues like fatty liver, and others. Fatty foods have a direct relationship with high blood cholesterol levels. High cholesterol levels are a risk factor for gallbladder stones. Here are some suggestions:

  1. In your early 30s, you should focus on a balanced diet (which includes protein, carbohydrates, and a small amount of fat too).
  2. Calculate your daily calorie intake (appropriate per day). The usual requirement is around 2000 kcal (kilocalories); you can aim for around 1800 in a day and try to engage in regular walking and exercise.
  3. Maintain your weight as per your body mass index (BMI); the target should be less than 25. You should know your weight in kilograms and height in meters to calculate your current BMI online.
