Please tell me about the acceptability and outcome of the surgery by looking at the post-operative x-rays of the neck of the femur?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

In an accident, my eight-year-old son got a fracture in the neck of the femur. He got operated on and was fixed by cannulated screws, but I am not satisfied with the post operative x-rays. I will share the x-rays with you. Please tell me the acceptability of the surgery and if this surgery will yield satisfactory results. Please guide.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please answer the following questions:

1) When did he get this injury?

2) After how many days of injury was he operated?

3) Also, share pre-operative X-rays?

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply. One month back, he got the fracture but had a bad chest ache, so he was operated on on the tenth day from the injury.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I feel the surgery done was fine. The improper alignment you see on Xrays (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity) will get better once the child grows. The bone gets remodeled, and such alignment is very forgiving in children. Since the surgery is done after ten days which has led to some union at the fracture site, it would have been difficult to reduce it. To properly reduce it, extensive surgery needs to be done, and I do not think it is required in a child of eight-year-old.

Regards.
